Allured to Alaska in 1991, Patti found herself with many jobs from commercial fishing, waitressing, housekeeper, teaching, and human services. With this background her passion is in assisting small business owner's to not only succeed in being successful but in planning for all phases of life. When there is a new challenge within tax laws, she takes it on to see how her clients can best be served by changes. These have included the Affordable Care Act, the CARES Act, PPP Loans, etc.
Patti holds a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education from Sheldon Jackson College. This was supplemented by three years of accounting classes from University of Alaska Southeast. She has been an Enrolled Agent since 2015. This designation from the IRS allows her to represent before the IRS to handle their tax matters.
When she is not at work she can be seen on the trails or adventuring with her family and friends enjoying all the wonders, weather, and wildlife Southeast Alaska has to offer.
Courtney began her career in accounting in 2015, while attending the University of Alaska Southeast. Courtney has spent the majority of her career working in public accounting originally beginning her career here at Shaffer & Co.
Courtney moved to Idaho in 2018, during her time in Idaho, she worked for a public accounting firm and then continued her career as an accountant at a publicly traded company. Courtney recently moved back to Sitka and is excited to be back with the team that she started her career with.
Courtney received her BBA in Accounting from Boise State University. Over the years, Courtney has found a huge love for tax preparation.
Katrina started working in the accounting field her first year at college in 2005 and has been enjoying numbers ever since. She attended Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi and received her BBA in Accounting in 2008 and earned her Masters in Accountancy in 2010.
Her industry experience includes construction, entertainment, legal, commercial rentals, software development and charter fishing. Katrina even spent a year teaching introductory accounting courses at a private college. Most recently she added the private sector and has spent the last four years working as a tax preparer on both individual and corporate returns.
When Katrina is not at a computer working, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family by the water or out exploring trails. She loves painting, cooking and baking treats with her girls.
Tamara moved to Sitka in the 1980s after graduating from an airline academy. Even though that line of work did not materialize, she pursued a career that utilized her love for numbers. She studied psychology at Southern Oregon State College then went on to study business at Mt. Hood Community College. She continued her education at UAS in accounting.
Tamara was the finance director of SEREMS maintaining grant money for several Southeast communities, a certified real estate appraiser and co-owner of a local business for 35 years. Her bookkeeping experience started in high school while working for the family construction business.
She keeps herself busy in the spring and summer by gardening and playing golf. She also spends a good amount of time doing crafts, puzzles and home projects. The highlight of her life is spending time outdoors and being with family (includes pets) and friends.
Bradley L. Shaffer began his accounting career in his birth state of New Mexico before moving to Sitka in 1977. Brad worked briefly for Alaska Lumber & Pulp Company before starting his own accounting and income tax business in 1979. Brad was in a partnership with others for seventeen years until 2007 when the current firm was established.
He graduated with honors from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Brad has been involved in numerous social, civic, and professional organizations during the past four decades. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants.
After being in business for over 44 years, Brad will be retiring from business ownership. He will be available on a case-by-case basis for consultations. He is happy to be a W-2 employee and let Patti take over the firm while he gets to enjoy life.
